The term « Horse-racing » groups together all races for horses :
Equestrian sports regroup a number of disciplines – 30 have been acknowledged by the Fédération Internationale Equéstre (FEI) : Dressage, Show Jumping (CSO), Eventing (CCE), Driving, Vaulting, Reining, Endurance, Para Dressage (the latter being dressage adapted for disabled riders).
These 8 disciplines are represented at the World Equestrian Games . 3 disciplines are olympic : dressage, show jumping and eventing. 1 discipline is paralympic.
The three olympic disciplines are the most practiced.
Horse-meat represents 0.5% of French meat consumption
Equine Therapy : Therapeutic uses, social insertion, educational rôles. No current figures are available for this sector.
Draught animals : already more than 200 municipalities use horses for waste collection (31%), maintenance work (20%), passenger transport (14%), forestry work (9%). This dynamic sector is not only value-creating, but also has many social and environmental advantages.
